About

My name is Andrea Lane.
I'm a city girl at heart, that loves little pieces of the country.
I'm married to the most amazing man alive, who lives a romantic life of cramped apartments, morning runs, and cups of hot coffee with me.
All this will soon change (other than the most amazing man alive part) - he joined the Air Force in July, and will be leaving for Basic Training and Tech School in January. We're currently living in Birmingham, Alabama, but I will leaving in January as well, to stay with my sister in Washington D.C.
In 2011, I will officially be a 'military wife'. If you would have told me that a few years ago, I would have laughed. My dream was to move to NYC, and become an artist, but I met a man who wants to serve our country, and I plan on being with him every step of the way.
I'm sort of a minimalist. I've had the same can of hairspray since high school, and I can't remember the last time I bought a tube of lipstick.
I love photography, but mostly shoot film right now, while I'm saving up for a digital SLR. I also love to paint (an Etsy store is coming soon).
I love all things vintage, and desperately want to be a hippie.

hergreatperhaps asked: Hi. I've been on your blog for about 10 minutes and I can't drag myself away to go study for my spanish and english exams that are tomorrow and its 7pm and I REALLY need to go do that. However, I'm intrigued. Studio art as a major? And you're tying in marketing? That sounds so amazing to me...what do you plan on doing with your life? (I know this is a huge general question, so if you can answer that would be awesome) If not, best of wishes -EO

In order to answer your “huge general question,” I’ll have to give you a little background info. It surprising, even to me, but I didn’t start out in college as an Art major (which is why I have an ungodly amount of semesters to finish before my beloved graduation date). I can’t imagine being anything else now, but during my Senior year of high school/ Freshman year of college, I had issues. I was scared of failure, scared of going too far from home, and a bit shallow, to be honest. I went into college with the mindset that making money and seeing the world should be my two main priorities when it came to choosing a major, and ultimately a future career. I also wanted my family to be proud of my decision, of course, so I chose what I thought would make them happy. Well, the short version of the long story is that eventually I came out on the other side and decided that I wasn’t going to push my dreams aside in pursuit of a falsely fulfilling life. I didn’t want to get to the end of this four (or five, in my case) year journey, look back, and say, “What was I thinking?”

I’ve always been creative, and it wasn’t until I started studio classes in college that I realized, I’ve always had an artist’s mind. I pay attention to detail, I notice beauty around me daily that others pass by continually, and I learn visually. When I was younger, I wanted to go to college in New York City and become an artist. Well obviously, I did not go to college in NYC (which I continue to regret, but am determined to do for grad school), but I am an artist.

To answer your question, what do I want to do with my life? Well, I want to actually live, for one, not merely exist. I don’t know exactly what kind of job I would like to have, but I do know that I’m not going to live to work or work to live. I would like to be able to make it as a professional artist right out of college, but that isn’t really realistic, so I’m not going to beat myself up if I end up working for an advertising agency or magazine. I just want to enjoy what I do.

Thanks for the question, and I would love to talk with you more if you have any other intriguing questions that you’re itching to ask. :)
